1. Service description
Sound Test provides a browser-based utility for playing short Left, Right, and Both audio tones, recording a visitor's listening response, and optionally showing local microphone input activity after permission is granted. The service is designed for practical troubleshooting of an output or input path.
The site may add, change, pause, or remove features as it evolves. A Confirmed or No Sound result is a visitor-reported listening status, not a laboratory measurement, hearing assessment, hardware certification, or calibrated decibel reading.
2. Your device and listening decisions
You are responsible for selecting the output or input device you intend to test, keeping the volume at a comfortable level, and checking the result against your own device settings. Check the system output, mute state, balance, browser tab, application mixer, connector, cable, Bluetooth profile, and a second device when troubleshooting.
Do not rely on this tool alone for safety-critical audio, medical, accessibility, hearing, production, broadcast, or electrical decisions. Consult an appropriately qualified professional when the situation requires calibrated equipment or technical diagnosis.
3. Audio and microphone limitations
- The test tone gain changes this page's audio signal; it does not change or measure your system volume.
- A browser cannot know the calibrated sound pressure reaching your ears from a normal device volume control.
- The microphone meter indicates local signal activity; it does not grade voice quality, background noise, hearing, or frequency response.
- Channel routing can be affected by the operating system, hardware, adapter, Bluetooth profile, browser, or device-specific audio processing.
- A browser playback event does not prove that every physical component in the audio chain is working correctly.
4. Microphone permission and data handling
The speaker test does not require microphone access. If you start the optional Microphone Test, your browser may ask for permission to access an input device. The page uses the stream for a local activity meter and is designed to stop the media tracks when you stop the test. 5. Acceptable use
- Do not use the site to process or distribute unlawful, infringing, harmful, or deceptive content.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, attack, scrape aggressively, or interfere with the site or other visitors.
- Do not inject malicious scripts, bypass security controls, or test the site in a way that harms its availability.
- Do not misrepresent Sound Test as affiliated with a device maker, browser vendor, audio manufacturer, or testing authority.
- Do not use the page to expose, record, or share another person's microphone input without their knowledge and permission.
6. Availability and changes
We may update, pause, or remove the tool, explanatory content, scripts, browser support, or interface states at any time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, compatibility with every browser or device, or permanent access to a temporary page-session result.
A future update may change supported browsers, tone behavior, microphone handling, formatting, or privacy disclosures. Continued use after a change means the revised Terms apply to future use.
7. Intellectual property
The original Sound Test text, layout, interface organization, branding, and code are owned by Sound Test or used with permission unless otherwise stated. You may not copy, resell, frame, or present the site in a way that suggests a false relationship with Sound Test.
Device names, browser names, standards, and other third-party marks remain the property of their respective owners.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the test will identify every audio fault, use the same routing as another application, provide a calibrated measurement, or meet every accessibility, production, medical, or engineering requirement.
You are responsible for device safety, listening volume, source-data validation, browser permissions, security review, professional diagnosis, and decisions based on any result.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sound Test and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site, inability to use the site, microphone permission, device behavior, listening volume, reported result, support communications, or third-party services. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
